Ryan Harris

Fisheries Biologist

Ryan joined Lummi Natural Resources Harvest Management in August 2023. A graduate of Western Washington University's Huxley College of the Environment, he comes from a diverse background in various environmental fields related to the restoration of natural resources, with a focus on aquatic systems. He has worked with the National Parks Service doing native trout restoration in the backcountry of Yellowstone National Park, for the Swinomish and Sauk-Suiattle tribes doing riparian restoration for pacific salmon habitat along the length of the Skagit River, for the City of Bellingham working to protect the city's water resources from aquatic invasive species, and more.

At Lummi Natural Resources, his duties include collecting samples from harvested salmon and halibut, conducting test fisheries, data processing, assisting with ceremonial and subsistence fisheries, helping to represent Lummi Nation's fishing interests and treaty rights by providing technical support during various regional meetings regarding halibut and pacific salmon harvest in the Salish Sea, and more.  He also assists with the various tasks of many other departments within LNR, particularly with stock assessment doing stream surveys, salmon enhancement helping with hatchery activities, shellfish harvest management conducting clam and crab surveys, and more.
